Altres seeking to hire 165 workers
Honolulu-based Altres Industrial, a division of Altres Staffing, a human resources organization, said Thursday it is looking to fill 165 positions on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island, most of which are full-time jobs, including labor and skilled construction workers, warehouse workers, delivery drivers, forklift operators, welders, property landscapers and many more.
"If 165 qualified industrial workers walked into my office today, I’d hire them on the spot. There’s an abundance of jobs right now, and there are so many businesses beyond retailers seeking holiday help that are hiring," said Shani Silva, manager of Altres Industrial. "Any time there’s a surplus of jobs, the applicant has the upper hand. Business owners and managers are so eager to get qualified people in the door that they may be more willing to hire someone less experienced."

Hawaiian Air first in punctuality again
Hawaiian Airlines kept its normal spot at the top of the list of the most punctual U.S. airlines.
The state’s largest carrier had the best on-time performance in August as 94 percent of its flights arrived on time, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The federal government counts a flight as on time if it arrives within 14 minutes of schedule.
Hawaiian has led all U.S. carriers in on-time performance for each of the past 10 years.
There are 14 airlines covered in the report. Some, including Spirit and Allegiant, are not included because they operate fewer flights.
In other categories, Hawaiian was third for fewest mishandled-baggage reports with 2.18 per 1,000 passengers and fourth for fewest consumer complaints with 0.87 per 100,000 passengers.
Chefs taste Molokai’s grass-fed beef
Agroup of Hawaii chefs and other guests were given a taste of 100 percent grass-fed beef from cattle born, raised and finished on Molokai.
Moloka’i Ranch announced Thursday that its tasting event Tuesday at 12th Ave Grill was a success.
Chef Mavro restaurant owner George Mavrothalassitis called the beef quality impressive and said, "I think Moloka’i Ranch is heading in the right direction,"according to the announcement.
Other chefs at the event included Kevin Hanney, Jason Schoonover and Ryan Durham of 12th Ave, Lee Anne Wong of Koko Head Cafe, Darren Demaya of Kai Market, Eberhard "Hardy" Kintscher of Michel’s, Nolan West of ‘Ama’Ama and Mike Suh of Morimoto Waikiki.
The ranch, which has about 1,300 cattle and plans to expand to about 2,000 in the next few years, announced its plan to launch a Moloka’i Ranch Beef brand in May.
The beef is not yet available in restaurants or stores, though the company is working on arrangements with restaurants.
