Big waves in forecast for standup races
High surf on the North Shore will raise the level of competition at this weekend’s 2014 Standup World Series Finals at Turtle Bay Resort.
The event consists of a long distance race from Turtle Bay to Haleiwa on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., culminating with the World Series Sprints that will take place to the west of the resort in front of the Point Pool Bar, kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
A Na Kama Kai Youth Clinic will be held in conjunction with the standup series on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Na Kama Kai U16 Sprint Race on Sunday morning that will showcase and celebrate youth participation in the sport.
Seasiders tie, still unbeaten in PacWest
Jace Green scored for a third consecutive game as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie against Point Loma in double overtime Thursday in Laie.
The Seasiders (4-4-2, 4-0-1) remain the only undefeated team in Pacific West Conference play with 13 points.

Four different players scored for the Hawai’i Pacific women’s soccer team Thursday in a 4-2 Pacific West Conference victory over Dixie State in Kaneohe.
Breanna Gaddis, Lexi Cameau, Ashlyn Ubongen and Meghan Cooley tallied for the Sharks (6-3-1, 3-2).
