Maui police have identified the 26-year-old man who died of his injuries after he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree Sunday in Haiku.

Zachery Callender Callender, of Haiku, died Tuesday at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The accident occurred at 4:20 p.m. Sunday on West Kuiaha Road, about seven-tenths of a mile north of Kaupakalua Road.

Callender is Maui County’s 19th traffic fatality, compared to 11 the same time as last year.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Maui police believe Callender may have been speeding when he lost control of his vehicle.
