October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and throughout the community, businesses are doing their part to help patients cope with the disease and raise awareness of early detection and treatment.
Throughout the month, InkOff.MD will accept appointments from breast cancer survivors to remove radiation tattoos, free of charge. The PicoSure laser treatment completely erases the tattoos in a span of three to four five-minute treatments.
InkOff.MD, owned by Dr. W.Y. Chung, is a member of the New Beginnings: Radiation Mark Removal Program, a national philanthropic campaign that offers radiation tattoo removal for cancer survivors and is coordinated by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Breast cancer survivors can call 949-8346 to make an appointment.
Elsewhere, seeing pink serves as a reminder to be vigilant about the disease. At Castle Medical Center a 60-foot Norfolk pine is graced with a pink awareness ribbon and 3,750 pink lights in recognition of breast cancer awareness.
Retailers are offering a number of pink products to help individuals show solidarity in eradicating breast cancer.
