Las Vegas police say former UFC fighter Johathan Koppenhaver

LOS ANGELES — Former MMA fighter War Machine is being kept in medical isolation after he attempted suicide in a Las Vegas jail, according to police.

Born Jonathan Koppenhaver, the 32-year-old tried to hang himself Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. in his Clark County Jail cell, when he was discovered by a guard doing a routine walkthrough, according to authorities. Guards found a suicide note in the cell.

Koppenhaver was unresponsive and struggling to breathe when he was found, but has since fully recovered, police said. He is now on suicide watch.

Koppenhaver is being held without bond after being charged with 32 felonies, the most serious of which is attempted murder, according to court documents.

Koppenhaver pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment.

Koppenhaver, who was arrested in Simi Valley, Calif., is accused of going to his ex-girlfriend’s Las Vegas home in the early morning hours of Aug. 8 and beating both her and a male companion, according to court documents.

Koppenhaver is also accused of sexually assaulting Christy Mack before threatening the other man with death if he reported the incident to police, according to documents.
