The host ‘Iolani Raiders withstood a spirited effort from the St. Francis Saints before pulling away in the second half for a 28-6 victory in an ILH Division II playoff game on Friday.
‘Iolani will play Damien at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Aloha Stadium for the ILH D-II second-round title.
‘Iolani led just 7-0 at halftime, but ultimately got three touchdown passes from quarterback Austin Jim On (two to Tyler Teruya) to defeat St. Francis for the second straight week. This one was much more competitive than last week’s 44-7 blowout to cap first-round play. Five forced turnovers by the Raiders helped them pull it out, while the Saints concluded their second season in program history at 2-7 and are still looking for their first win in ILH play.
"I think defensively we played a pretty solid game. That’s a good starting point for us going into this championship game," Raiders coach Wendell Look said.
"It gave us a chance to win this game. If we didn’t play as well as we did on defense, this score would have been 48-0 the other way. We punted more today than I think we did the whole season."
