» The Play: WR Quinton Pedroza recovers a fumble by PR Billy Vaughn and Hawaii gets the ball at the San Diego State 28. It is the ninth time in his career that a punt by Scott Harding results in Hawaii retaining the ball.

» Impact: Hawaii wasted the opportunity, as it failed to obtain a first down and K Tyler Hadden was wide left on a 39-yard field-goal try.

» Hawaii coach Norm Chow: "We lost the football game tonight. The numerous mistakes we made, I can’t believe we make ’em in the sixth, whatever game it is in the season."

2. Full of grace

» The Play: QB Ikaika Woolsey lofts a Hail Mary pass to the end zone. The ball ends up in the hands of WR Marcus Kemp.

» Impact: Hawaii, which had been dominated statistically in the first half, went into the locker room at intermission with momentum and just a three-point deficit.

» Kemp: "It’s surreal. You look at the ball. Did this really happen?"

3. Called back

» Situation: San Diego State 10, Hawaii 7, 15:00 remaining, third quarter, San Diego State kicking off from own 35

» The Play: KR Keelan Ewaliko takes the second-half kickoff 2 yards deep in his end zone and returns it for an apparent touchdown. But the play is called back for holding and Hawaii gets the ball at its own 17-yard line.

» Impact: Instead of going ahead 14-10, Hawaii was saddled with poor field position to start the second half and went three-and-out.

» Ewaliko: "(It) was like a dagger to the heart. … I’m not sure who they called (the penalty on), but as I watched the replay I didn’t see anything. I saw a clean play."

» The Play: QB Ikaika Woolsey throws a long pass that is intercepted by CB Damontae Kazee.

» Impact: The first of two interceptions thrown by Woolsey in the fourth quarter allowed San Diego State to run down the clock while driving for insurance points in a low-scoring game.
