LIHUE >> The Kauai County Council plans to rename the Kapaa New Town Park Facility the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.

It will happen Saturday during the final Kauai Interscholastic football game of the regular season.

The public is invited to attend the games and a short ceremony marking the dedication of the complex.

The junior varsity game will begin at noon and the varsity game will begin at 2:30, and the ceremony will happen at 1:30 or right after the junior varsity game.

Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. says the late Mayor Baptiste felt strongly that Kapaa High School should have its own home field.

The 18-acre sports complex includes a football stadium with bleachers, two baseball fields, a softball field, basketball courts, tennis courts and an in-line hockey rink.
