Fire at homeless camp spreads to warehouse
A fire at a vacant Kahului homeless encampment early Friday morning damaged a warehouse of a neighboring farm produce company. a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
Firefighters responded to a brush fire at 4:09 a.m. on Hookele Street and found about 300 square feet of a homeless camp burning with the blaze spreading to a warehouse belonging to Hawaii Grower Products.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 4:20 a.m.
Damage was limited to outside of the warehouse and estimated at $4,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
