Rainbow Wahine fall to SDSU in opener
The Hawaii women’s swimming and diving team faltered in its season opener with a 157-132 loss to San Diego State at the Aztec Aquaplex Friday. The Aztecs claimed 10 of 16 events to remain undefeated at 7-0.
Kira Webster led the Rainbow Wahine with first-place finishes in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle with times of 4:57.71 and 10:15.19.
Erin McNulty added nine points to Hawaii’s score with a winning time of 56.77 in the 100 butterfly and Lauren Hall claimed the 3-meter diving event with a score of 314.25. Hawaii’s Sophie Allen captured the 200 IM nearly four seconds ahead at 2:11.60.
The Rainbow Wahine placed first and second in the 200 freestyle due to three Aztec disqualifications in the event.
UH Hilo outlasts Dominican
Callie Aberle pounded down 17 kills with only five errors as Hawaii Hilo beat Dominican 25-22, 25-13, 20-25, 25-23 at home on Friday night.
Kyndra Trevino-Scott added 11 kills for the Vulcans (6-11, 5-9 PacWest). Aimee Steinwand led Dominican (5-16, 3-10) with 17 kills.
