Hawaii turns back UC Santa Barbara in volleyball

Sophomore hitter Nikki Taylor put down a career-high 22 kills ad senior libero Sarah Mendoza added a career-high 25 digs to lead Hawaii past UC Santa Barbara in a Big West volleyball match 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16 Sunday evening at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Junior middle Olivia Magill and freshman Kalei Greeley each had 10 kills and junior hitter Ginger Long a career-high 13 digs as the Rainbow Wahine improved to 14-5, 6-2 in conference.
Ali Barbeau led the Gauchos (9-10, 4-4) with 16 kills and Chanel Hoffman added 11 kills.
Hawaii outblocked UCSB 10-5 with setter Tayler Higgins in on seven and senior middle Kalei Adolpho five. Higgins had 10 digs to go along with 49 assists. Taylor hit a match-high .462 and had three of Hawaii’s four aces.
