Rainy weather will set in over Kauai, Oahu
National Weather Service forecasters expect winds and rains to pick up Thursday, with possible heavy showers on Kauai and Oahu.
The rainy weather will likely linger into Halloween and could dampen trick-or-treating.
Blame a weather system moving over the islands that is expected to stall over Oahu and Kauai.
Most of the rain should fall on windward and mauka areas. But trade winds are also expected to pick up and blow some of the rain over leeward areas.
The forecast for south shores of Oahu, including Honolulu, calls for a 50 percent chance of rain and breezy trade winds of 10 to 20 mph on Thursday and a 70 percent chance of rain Thursday night. There’s also a 50 percent chance of rain on Halloween and the rain could continue into Saturday.
Sunday should be mostly sunny, with isolated showers.
Meanwhile, the streak of hotter-than-usual weather on Kauai continued on Tuesday. The high of 86 degrees at Lihue Airport tied a record for the date set in 1994.
Rail work to close segment of Farrington
Farrington Highway will be closed to traffic in both directions starting Saturday between Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) and Old Fort Weaver Road Loop for rail construction.
The closure will last through the end of January, rail officials say.
Drivers traveling between East Kapolei and the Ewa/Waipahu region can still access either side by using the H-1 freeway on the north end of Kualakai Parkway or Kapolei Parkway/Geiger Road on the south end, according to the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.
Closing that portion of Farrington will allow construction crews to relocate utilities and do column work in the roadway, rail officials say.
The full closure on Farrington comes as construction ramps up on the 20-mile rail project. Work has also been causing traffic delays along various stretches of Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City, with closures there during the day and overnight.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered at the scene and Higgins was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Teen arrested over voyeurism
An investigation into reports of a "peeping Tom" in South Kohala has led to the arrest of a teenage boy.
From June through October, South Kohala police received reports of a young male peering into windows in the Waikoloa Village area.
An investigation led to the identity of a 15-year-old boy, who was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of fourth-degree sexual assault, which applies to "peeping Tom" type activities, Hawaii County police said in a release.
The boy was released to the custody of his parents pending further investigation.
Beach reopens after shark seen
Makua Beach on Kauai reopened to swimming Wednesday, a day after a shark encounter.
Ocean safety officials closed the North Shore beach, also known as Tunnels, at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after divers reported that an aggressive shark, 7 to 8 feet long, approached them while they were diving.
The divers gave their speared catch to the shark and were able to swim away unharmed, officials said.
