Fire, not related to lava, heavily damages Pahoa house
A midmorning fire Wednesday caused an estimated $125,000 damage to a $175,000 house in Pahoa, Hawaii.
No one was home at the time of the fire, a Hawaii County Fire Department official said.
The Fire Department’s investigator had not found the cause of the 11:15 a.m. fire in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision by late afternoon Wednesday.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the 1,056-square-foot single-story dwelling. The house is located on Maiko Street near the intersection with Kahakai Boulevard.
A fire official said the house was not close to any lava that could have sparked the fire.
Thirteen firefighters fought the blaze and brought the fire under control by 11:32 a.m. It was extinguished at 11:35 a.m.
