Mayor charged in DUI injury crash is re-elected

MURRIETA, Calif. » A former Southern California mayor charged with a drunken-driving crash that injured four cheerleaders has been re-elected to the City Council.

Alan Long won one of three council seats Tuesday in a nine-way race in Murrieta. The mayor’s post is rotated among council members.

Long resigned last month after his pickup truck rear-ended a car carrying Murrieta Valley High School cheerleaders.

He’s pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence.

Authorities say Long had a blood-alcohol level of .08 — the legal limit. His attorney has argued it was below the limit.

Murrieta is about 75 miles east of Los Angeles.
