Inmate flees while on work furlough
Police are searching for a 24-year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate who failed to return from a work furlough early Thursday morning.
Eric Fernando, who is serving sentences for burglary and promotion of dangerous drugs, left the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on Wednesday for work and failed to return by 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
Fernando now faces an additional charge of escape. He was scheduled for a parole hearing in December.
Alleged phone thief sends victim a selfie
Honolulu police released a photo of a man who may have taken a selfie after stealing a purse and cellphone.
Police said the suspect "forcefully took" the purse and cellphone from a car at the Waipahu Transit Center at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 21.
The victim received a photo that police believe may have been taken with the woman’s stolen cellphone, police said.
