Crash on Farrington Highway kills man, 42, from Waianae
A 42-year-old Waianae male driver was killed and his 53-year-old passenger was in serious condition at a hospital following the collision of a pickup truck and sport utility vehicle Wednesday night in Maili.
Police said the man, driving a Toyota truck, was leaving a gas station near Hookele Street and Farrington Highway just after 8:30 p.m. when the truck was hit by an SUV driven by a 26-year-old Waianae woman.
Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins said firefighters had to extricate the man, who was pinned inside the truck.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to a hospital, where he died. Also hospitalized were the 53-year-old passenger in the Toyota and the woman who drove the SUV, police said.
One or more vehicles struck a light pole and downed communication lines, Jenkins said. He said two other vehicles had minor involvement in the crash.
