Waianae man killed in crash is identified
The medical examiner has identified the 42-year-old Waianae man who was killed when his truck was hit by a sport utility vehicle Wednesday night as Patrick Mantanona.
The cause of death was blunt force injuries to his body, the medical examiner said.
Police said Mantanona, who was driving a Toyota truck out of a gas station, attempted to turn east on Farrington Highway near Hookele Street at 8:45 p.m. when an sport utility vehicle driven by a 26-year-old Waianae woman struck his vehicle.
Paramedics took Mantanona and a 53-year-old male passenger to the hospital, where Mantanona died, police said. His passenger was reported in serious condition. An ambulance also took the SUV driver to the hospital for treatment.
Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
