Michelin Guide gives Grace 3 stars

CHICAGO » The famed Michelin Guide has bumped up one Chicago restaurant to three-star status and given a new restaurant two stars.

The Michelin Guide Chicago 2015 goes on sale Wednesday.

Grace in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood received three stars, which is the maximum rating. The chef is Curtis Duffy. Also in Chicago, Grant Achatz’s (AK-ets) Ali­nea maintained its three-star rating.

The restaurant 42 Grams, which has been open for less than a year, got two stars.

Michelin guides are considered among the premier ratings of the restaurant world. Anonymous inspectors award stars based on several criteria, including quality of ingredients.

Civil War Christmas tour on tap

CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. » Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, Tenn., will host a Civil War Christmas tour Dec. 5-7. The tour will include a bus ride to visit the historic Carnton Plantation, the Athenaeum, a Franklin Candlelight Tour, the Maury County Christmas Tour and the Stones River Battlefield for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Cedars.

New York offers virtual park tour

ALBANY, N.Y. » New York has posted online more than 90 virtual tours of parks, campgrounds, attractions and other destinations.

Intended to make it easier for tourists to plan outings, the 360-degree, color, panoramic images also link to brief descriptions of the sites, highlights and contact information.

They range from Jones Beach on Long Island to Niagara Falls at the western edge of the state and Lake George in the Adirondacks.

Deals aplenty in the Big Apple

NEW YORK » New York City’s tourism agency wants to lure visitors between January and March by reminding them that there are great deals on theaters, restaurants and hotels.

Promotions include Restaurant Week from Feb. 16 to March 6. A three-course dinner at participating restaurants will be $38 plus drinks, tax and tip.

Tickets will be two for one during Broadway Week, Jan. 20 to Feb. 5, and Off-Broadway Week, Feb. 23 to March 8.
