Retiring colonel to lead DOE facilities office
An Air Force colonel is joining the Hawaii public school system’s leadership team.
The state Department of Education said Tuesday that Dann Carlson will head the Office of School Facilities and Support Services as an assistant superintendent. The department says Carlson will retire from the Air Force on Dec. 1, which is when he starts with the DOE. He’s leaving his position at the Pentagon as special assistant to the undersecretary of international affairs.
The fighter pilot is returning to Hawaii after having served as deputy commander at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam from 2011 to 2013.
Panel OKs funds for county office
KAILUA-KONA » A Hawaii County finance panel has given preliminary approval to a nearly $10 million building for the prosecutor’s office in Kailua-Kona.
The County Council Finance Committee unanimously agreed Tuesday to recommend the spending of $9.6 million to the full Council.
The money to plan and erect the building would come from bond funds or other sources in future budgets, West Hawaii Today reported.
Prosecutor Mitch Roth said he needs more room for his staff and an anticipated growth in its caseload.
Pair face slew of drug charges
Hawaii County police have charged a woman and man with drug offenses after searching their Waikoloa residence.
On Monday morning, officers served the search warrant on a home on Puu Nui Street and recovered 129.5 grams of a crystalline substance, 15.1 grams of a dried green leafy substance, 6.6 grams of a white powdery substance, one morphine tablet and paraphernalia associated with the distribution and use of narcotics. Police also seized $901 in cash for forfeiture.
Lenore Lafaye, 46, and Lindsey Robinson, 45, were charged Monday.
Lafaye was charged with meth trafficking, promoting a detrimental drug, three counts of promoting a dangerous drug and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $316,000.
Robinson was charged with promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a detrimental drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $21,000.
