Northern Arizona defeats Fresno State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. >> Aaseem Dixon scored 30 points to lead Northern Arizona to its first season win, a 73-52 victory over Fresno State on Thursday night.

Dixon did it by sinking 7 of 9 from beyond the arc, 9 of 11 from the line, and 7 of 15 from the field. Kris Yanku added 14 points and Quinton Upshur chipped in with 9 for the Lumberjacks (1-2).

Northern Arizona jumped to a 19-7 lead midway through the first period with the help of three Dixon 3-pointers. He sank four more 3s in the period and the Lumberjacks led 39-23 at the break.

A Gaellan Bewernick dunk with 12:22 left in the second extended their lead to 50-29 as the Bulldogs (1-2) continued to slide. Dixon and Yanku combined for 10 of 10 from the line the final four minutes to seal the Lumberjacks’ win.

Julien Lewis scored 12 points for the Bulldogs.
