Kailua-Kona man faces 16 charges after car break-in

A 26-year-old Kailua-Kona man faces 16 charges after he was connected to the break-in of a car last month.

George Cruz III was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of removing a purse, a skateboard and other items from a car parked at Ooma Beach Park on Oct. 28.

A search of Cruz’s home and truck turned up the items stolen from the car as well as three illegal butterfly knives, 470.4 grams of dried processed marijuana, three different types of narcotic pills, and drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, Cruz was charged with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, promoting a harmful drug, two counts of theft, three counts of promoting a dangerous drug, three counts of promoting a detrimental drug, three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, and three counts of possessing an illegal butterfly knife. His aggregate bail was set at $22,500.
