Fresno routs Nevada, with the ‘Bows on the way next

RENO, Nevada » Brian Burrell passed for 313 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in Fresno State’s 40-20 win at Nevada on Saturday night.

Burrell ran for 56 yards and a score as the Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3) kept their Mountain West Conference championship hopes alive on Nevada’s Senior Night.

Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo scored on runs of 55 and 60 yards, but was just 11-for-24 passing for 126 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Josh Quezada ran for 119 yards on 24 carries and Greg Watson had 89 yards receiving and a touchdown on four receptions for Fresno State, which scored 24 points off four Nevada (6-5, 3-4) turnovers.

Fresno State can claim a Mountain West Conference West Division title, and advance to the conference championship game on Dec. 6, with a victory at home Saturday against Hawaii.

Nevada was eliminated from the MWC championship race.

BOISE STATE 63, WYOMING 14

LARAMIE, Wyo. » Jay Ajayi rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and also scored on a 73-yard screen pass in leading the Broncos (9-2, 6-1 Mountain West) over the Cowboys (4-7, 2-5).

Grant Hedrick completed 13 of 19 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns as Boise State gouged the Cowboys defense with its superior speed and scored its most points in a game this season.

Donte Deayon had a 75-yard punt return for a TD, and Darian Thompson returned an interception 36 yards for a score.

The Broncos, who entered the game ranked 11th in total offense with an average of 508.9 yards per game, gained 558 total yards, averaging 8.2 yards per play.

Wyoming has yet to beat Boise State in the nine games the two teams have played.

The Broncos will play in the conference championship if they win next weekend against Utah State.

WASHINGTON 37, OREGON STATE 13

SEATTLE » Jaydon Mickens caught a 54-yard touchdown on Washington’s first drive and added a 36-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, Dwayne Washington ran for a 68-yard touchdown and the Huskies (7-5, 3-5 Pac-12) became bowl eligible with a win over the Beavers (5-6, 2-6).

Washington jumped to an early 17-0 lead and easily rebounded from last week’s late collapse at Arizona. The Huskies earned bowl eligibility for a fifth straight season and the first under coach Chris Petersen.

Dwayne Washington finished with 100 yards on 14 carries. Washington quarterback Cyler Miles was 18-for-23 for 253 yards and two TDs. Miles found Mickens early and hit Darrell Daniels on a 68-yard TD in the fourth quarter.

Oregon State lost for the fifth time in six games and was unable to build on last week’s upset of Arizona State.

NORTHERN IOWA 38, MISSOURI STATE 24

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa » David Johnson padded three school records in his final regular-season game, rushing for a career-high 205 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers (8-4, 6-2 Missouri Valley) beat the Bears (4-8, 1-7).

It was the 22nd time in Johnson’s career that he rushed for more than 100 yards in a game, but the first time he topped 200. His three touchdown runs (6, 31 and 9yards) give him 59 for his career, his 205 yards give him 4,487 for his career, and he added 243 all-purpose yards to his career-best mark (6,439).
