2 injured in motorcycle, bicycle collision in Kakaako

    Traffic backed up on Ala Moana Boulevard Tuesday morning after police closed ewa-bound lanes near Queen Street.

A 34-year-old man remains in critical condition Tuesday after the motorcycle he was driving hit a bicyclist who was crossing against the light on Ala Moana Boulevard near Ala Moana Park, police said.

The collision occurred at 7:10 a.m. at Ala Moana Boulevard and Queen Street.

Police said the motorcyclist was traveling west on Ala Moana Boulevard and had the green light when a 25-year-old Waipahu man on a bicycle ignored the don’t walk red sign and crossed Ala Moana Boulevard heading for the park.

Both the motorcycle and the bicycle riders were thrown from their vehicles.

The two men were taken to hospital in critical condition. The 25-year-old bicyclist’s condition was later upgraded to serious.

Neither driver wore helmets.

Police closed ewa-bound lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard for nearly two hours Tuesday morning.

Traffic was detoured to Queen Street and Auahi Street. while traffic division officers investigated the crash scene.

Police reopened the road at about 9:10 a.m.
