Driver arrested for allegedly injuring Maui officer
Maui police arrested a man who allegedly accelerated a stolen vehicle that hit a patrol car and slightly injured a police officer Tuesday morning in the area of Makena State Park.
Police said that at 9:06 a.m., officers tracked a stolen vehicle using GPS and the vehicle was located in the parking lot of La Perouse Bay.
The driver was leaving the lot when he saw the patrol car, police said. The officer got out and stood by the driver’s side door and ordered the suspect to get out of his vehicle.
The man allegedly accelerated toward the officer, who jumped into the patrol car, and was hit by his own car door, which was struck by the stolen vehicle, police said.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree criminal property damage and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
