Man rescued from Diamond Head trail

A 44-year-old man collapsed just 100 yards after starting the hike on the Diamond Head trail Thursday and had to be rescued by firefighters and paramedics.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m.

Fire officials said the hiker was about 100 yards from the trailhead when he fainted. The hiker was taken by ambulance to Straub Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not reported by officials.
