The Department of Education closed Waianae Elementary School after a water main break that is affecting water service to the school and seven nearby homes.

The DOE reported the closure on its Twitter feed.

The 8-inch main ruptured Friday morning at about 4 a.m. on McArthur Street between Imipono and Mill streets, and the break was repaired and water service restored about 4 p.m.

McArthur Street is closed as crews work to repair the road.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area and use alternate routes.
