The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Niihau, Kauai, and Molokai and for the north-facing shores of Maui effective until 6 p.m. Thursday.
The advisory was prompted by a series of northwest swells that are expected to result in wave heights of 15 to 20 feet by Monday evening.
The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves and strong currents that could make swimming dangerous.
