Maui man charged with robbery in store parking lot

A 27-year-old Haiku man has been charged in connection with a robbery in the parking lot of a Home Depot store in Kahului last month, Maui police said Monday.

According to police, Kingston Cayaban entered another man’s vehicle, brandished a knife and demanded the man’s property. The man accelerated his vehicle into a barricade, prompting Cayaban to exit the vehicle and flee the scene. The victim suffered minor injuries.

Cayaban was located and arrested Thursday. He was subsequently charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and kidnapping. His aggregate bail was set at $46,000.
