Woman identified in traffic accident death
An 80-year-old woman who died last week after a traffic accident on Nimitz Highway has been identified as Elizabeth Adams of Honolulu.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that a partial autopsy indicates Adams died of coronary artery disease, but the official cause of death is pending the completion of other tests.
Police said Adams was driving east when she rear-ended another vehicle stopped in traffic near Puuloa Road at 9:21 p.m. Thursday. Adams initially did not indicate she was injured, but later lost consciousness and died the next day.
This was Oahu’s 54th traffic death, compared with 51 at the same time last year.
Suspect arrested in frying pan assault
A 50-year-old Kapalama Heights man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a woman with a frying pan.
Police said the incident occurred at 10 p.m. Sunday at a Kealia Drive home. The suspect allegedly struck a 48-year-old woman on her right shoulder with the pan. The extent of her injuries was not released.
The suspect was arrested at his home Sunday on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was released pending further investigation.
Haiku man charged in parking lot robbery
A 27-year-old Haiku man has been charged in connection with a robbery in the parking lot of a Home Depot store in Kahului last month, Maui police said Monday.
Kingston Cayaban entered another man’s vehicle, brandished a knife and demanded the man’s property, police said. The victim ran his vehicle into a barricade and Cayaban fled, police said. The victim suffered minor injuries.
Cayaban was arrested Thursday. He was subsequently charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and kidnapping. Bail was set at $46,000.
