Maui photographer’s nature image sells for $6.5 million
A black-and-white photograph by Peter Lik, who runs galleries in Waikiki and Lahaina, sold Wednesday for a record $6.5 million.
“Phantom,” depicting a ghostlike image at Antelope Canyon in Arizona, was sold to a private collector along with two other images by Lik for a whopping $10 million sale. “Illusion” and “Eternal Moods” were sold for $2.4 and $1.1 million, respectively, according to a news release from Lik’s company.
The anonymous buyer is said to be a longtime collector of his work.
Lik, a native of Australia who lives on Maui, is best known for his artistic color landscapes, making the black-and-white works a rare departure.
The photographer has 14 galleries in the U.S. and Australia, including one at Beach Walk in Waikiki and another on Lahaina’s Front Street on Maui.
