Prosecutors charged a 41-year-old Salt Lake man with the beating death of a man and the assault of a woman with a metal object early Tuesday morning in Aliamanu.

Dale D. Rodriguez was charged Wednesday night with second-degree murder and second-degree assault. His bail was set at $1 million.

Police are still looking for a second man who may have been involved in the death of a 33-year-old Jesse Waikiki and the assault of a 38-year-old woman at about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 3400 block of Salt Lake Boulevard, about block away from the Salt Lake Shopping Center.

Police would not say how the second suspect was involved in the assaults.

The medical examiner said Waikiki died of blunt force injuries to the face.

Paramedics took Waikiki in critical condition with facial injuries to the hospital, where he died. The 38-year-old woman also was hospitalized in serious condition with head injuries.

Police said the incident began as an argument in a home on Salt Lake Boulevard and spilled into the street, where the man and woman were found in the middle of Salt Lake Boulevard between Likini Place and Wanaka Street.

Rodriguez is the ex-boyfriend of the woman, according to neighbors.

Police interviewed two teenage girls, believed to be the daughter of the woman, who were at home when the argument began.
