Noons, Medeiros make weight
Former Kailua-Kona resident KJ Noons and Waianae’s Yancy Medeiros made weight for their MMA fights Friday night at the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter finale event at The Palms in Las Vegas.
Noons (12-6, 2-1 UFC), a former StrikeForce lightweight champion, weighed in at 156 pounds for his bout against Daron Cruickshank (16-5, 6-3). Medeiros (10-2, 1-2) weighed in at 155.5 pounds for his fight against Joe Proctor (10-2, 3-1).
Both bouts are part of the main card televised live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 4 p.m.
Honolulu’s Dustin Kimura fights Saturday in an early preliminary bout at the UFC Fight Night event in Phoenix.
Kimura (12-2, 2-2) fights for the first time since April against Henry Cejudo (6-0), who is making his UFC debut.
The 135-pound fight will be shown online on the UFC Fight Pass channel accessible through UFC.com.
Michelle Wie Day at Ala Wai Friday
Michelle Wie Day will be declared by Mayor Kirk Caldwell at 3 p.m. Friday at Ala Wai Golf Course.
The 25-year-old Wie, an LPGA Tour golfer from Honolulu, will be presented an official key to the City and County of Honolulu. The Punahou School alumna has won four LPGA events, including the U.S. Women’s Open in June.
