Aulani guest room is damaged by blaze
Fire damaged a third-floor guest room Thursday at the Aulani Disney Resort. The building at the resort, 92-1185 Aliinui Drive, was evacuated.
The fire ignited at a charging station for batteries for large remote-control trucks, Fire Capt. David Jenkins said. The charger unit overheated, caught fire and set off the smoke detector, which alerted the hotel staff.
The staff entered the room and found the charger unit destroyed, 2 square feet of carpet charred and smoke damage in the room.
Guests were not in the room at the time of the fire.
Firefighters responded to the 2:32 p.m. alarm and arrived at 2:40 pm. The fire was extinguished upon arrival, and firefighters assisted in ventilating the room.
