A Maui grand jury has indicted a Molokai man in the murder of 20-year-old Koshari Kahikili, whose body was found on an East Molokai road in May, police said.
Jeffrey Kalani Davis, 39, of Kaunakakai was arrested and charged Friday with second-degree murder.
Davis also faces three firearm-related charges, including the use of a firearm during a felony.
Police said Davis’ bail was set at $1.2 million.
Police said Kahikili was found on May 20 at about 6:45 a.m. in the area of Kamehameha Highway in Mapulehu by a man on a moped.
Police, medics and fire rescue workers responded, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Kahikili, also known as Koshari Nalu Kahikili Waits, had been shot in the head, his mother, Nancy Stardove Campbell-Kowardy, told people on Facebook.
"I can’t even begin to describe how badly I am doing … my heart hurts so badly," Campbell-Kowardy wrote.
Kahikili worked as a ranch hand at Pu‘u O Hoku Ranch.
"He was a good worker for a young man," said office manager Keala Coelho. "It’s very, very sad … such a young man. His life had just begun."
