Local fashion projects seek financing via crowdfunding
In the season of giving, a few local projects are asking for help via crowd-sourced fundraising:
» Last year, Andy Reilly, associate professor at the University of Hawaii-Manoa’s Apparel Product Design and Merchandising program, teamed with Malie Moran and Attila Pohlmann to publish "Honolulu Street Style."
Next year he’s taking students enrolled in his summer classes to Berlin for six weeks to work on a "Berlin Street Style" book.
He’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $13,000 to defray costs of the project.
» Kate Ruggiero created her lingerie brand Gypsy four years ago, stitching up garments suitable for her North Shore lifestyle in her kitchen.
Too pretty to keep under wraps, the lingerie line is being expanded into swim wear, and Ruggiero has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $45,000. To help, visit bit.ly/1qYatN6.
Among perks being offered for a $5 contribution is a kiss from local Sports Illustrated swim model Michelle Vawer. All $5 contributers, through Dec. 24, will also be entered in a drawing to have a signature style named after you, plus four Gypsy bottoms.
