Bank robbery is Honolulu’s third in a week
Honolulu police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who robbed the American Savings Bank on Kapiolani Boulevard on Tuesday.
The man entered the bank at 1600 Kapiolani Blvd. at 9:59 a.m. and handed a demand note to a teller, then fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to a CrimeStoppers news release.
The suspect was described as in his 50s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair. He wore a tan jacket and green shirt, and carried a black bag.
It was the third bank robbery in a week. While it appears the robberies were committed by different men, all three robbers used demand notes, according to CrimeStoppers.
The other two robberies:
» On Dec. 16 a man in his 40s robbed the First Hawaiian Bank at 2 N. School St. in Kalihi.
» On Dec. 17 a man in his 20s robbed the Bank of Hawaii at 7192 Kalanianaole Highway in Hawaii Kai.

Motorcyclist who died after crash is ID’d
A 39-year-old Honolulu man who was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle last weekend was identified Tuesday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office as John G. Chung.
The office said Chung died of multiple blunt force injuries and it ruled his death an accident.
The crash occurred at about 12:20 a.m. in an area fronting Diamond Head Theatre.
Police said Chung was heading south on Makapuu Avenue when he struck a curb and hit the ground. He died at a hospital.
Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.
