Diver recovers suspected bomb in waters off Kihei, Maui
A diver retrieved an object resembling unexploded ordnance from waters off North Kihei Road on Friday afternoon.
The diver made the discovery around 2:12 p.m, according to the Maui Police Department. He brought the object ashore in an area near mile marker 2 and contacted authorities.
Police blocked off the beach about 100 feet in all directions from the suspected ordnance.
The scene was then turned over to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
An explosive ordnance disposal team from Oahu will examine the device.
