Suspected ordnance found off Maui beach
A diver retrieved an object resembling unexploded ordnance from waters off North Kihei Road on Friday.
The diver made the discovery around 2:12 p.m, according to the Maui Police Department. He brought the object ashore near mile marker 2 and contacted authorities.
Police blocked off the beach for 100 feet in all directions.
The scene was then turned over to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources. An explosive ordnance disposal team from Oahu will examine the device.
Boy, 2, hurt in scooter collision with car
A 2-year-old boy was seriously injured Saturday when the scooter he was riding collided with a car.
The incident occurred around 5:07 p.m., according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
The report did not include complete location information. However, the Honolulu Police Department traffic log listed a vehicular accident in Kailua around the same time.
Paramedics treated the boy before taking him to a local trauma center.
