Electric crews responding to multiple outages across state
Thousands of customers on Maui are still without electricity Saturday morning after a fast-moving cold front swept through the island chain Friday night, according to Maui Electric.
"Thank you to our customers for their patience and understanding as our crews work to restore power to everyone as safely and quickly as possible," said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric.
Strong winds brought down trees and debris in electrical lines in areas throughout Maui County including South Maui, Central Maui, Upcountry, Paia, Haiku, East Maui and Molokai.
About 4,888 customers remain without power on Maui as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
On Oahu, police and firefighters responded to numerous weather-related calls through Friday evening, including downed trees on Waialua Road; fallen power lines in Kaimuki, Wahiawa and other locations; and several blown or damaged roofs on the Windward side.
Power was restored to approximately 1,200 customers in the Mililani Tech Park and Launani Valley area at 1:35 p.m.
