Police officers try to disperse the crowd of Ohio State fans trying to block High Street in Columbus, Ohio, as they celebrate the Buckeye's 42-20 win over Oregon following the National Championship football game between Ohio State and Oregon outside of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio >> Ohio State University says revelers who got into Ohio Stadium after the football team’s championship victory tore down a goal post on the south end of the field.

University spokesman Dan Hedman says the goal post was one used for high school games and not the regular, permanent post.

Hedman says university police responded to various places in and around campus after fans took to the streets early Tuesday morning, including Ohio Stadium, the university’s Mirror Lake, a popular gathering spot, and the neighborhood north of campus.

The Columbus Fire Department says it received 89 reports of mainly trash fires in the hours after the game.

The agency also said it responded to five reports of people with injuries.
