KAHULUI >> The Hawaii National Guard says more than 40 Maui-based members of a communications squadron are going overseas for six months.

The Hawaii Air National Guard’s 292nd Combat Communications Squadron is deploying to an unspecified location in the region where the U.S. Central Command operates. This area includes the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

The National Guard said Tuesday operational security and host nation sensitivities prevent it from disclosing exactly where the airmen will be deployed.

The Maui airmen are being joined by several airmen from the Hilo-based 291st Combat Communications Squadron. Some airmen from the 154th Force Support Squadron at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam will deploy as well.
