Small earthquake strikes southwest of Hilo

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook the east side of the Big Island Friday night.

The quake, which struck at 10:30 p.m., was too small to generate a tsunami.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered 28 miles southwest of Hilo and 11 miles southeast of Volcano, at a depth of about 4 miles.
