There was big news last week about the entertainment lineup at Caesars Palace, where it was confirmed that Mariah Carey will take up residence in the Colosseum.
Carey announced the news on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and tickets are already on sale ($55-$250) for performances on May 6, 9-10, 13, 16-17, 20, 23-24 and July 8, 11-12, 15, 18-19, 22, 25-26. Word is the concerts will feature "all" of Carey’s hits.
Meanwhile it was reported that Celine Dion will not return to Caesars this March as previously planned. The earliest the headliner is now likely to return to performing on the Strip is the end of the year.
Betting bargain: As the casinos prepare their Super Bowl parties and promotions, one good deal has already hit the street. The line at the Wynn is PK/-105, meaning neither the Seattle Seahawks nor the New England Patriots is getting points and you have to bet only $105 to win $100, as opposed to the standard $110/$100 arrangement. It’s the only book in town dealing the -105 line, which constitutes a value if you want to get a bet down on your team.
Oxtail soup: As part of the 40th anniversary of downtown’s California casino at the end of the month, the Market Street Cafe will offer a "96 hours of oxtail" special from Friday to Feb. 2. Prices haven’t been announced, but a current late-night-only special is priced at $9.99 for a big bowl.
Poker room closed: The poker room at the Linq has closed. Following closures in the past two years at O’Sheas and Bill’s (now the Cromwell), now the only Caesars Entertainment poker room in that area is at Harrah’s.
QUESTION: I’m coming to town for the Super Bowl. Which sports books will put up the proposition bets?
ANSWER: The "props" — bets on things like which team will score first or who will win MVP — will be available at most books, but Westgate Las Vegas (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton and LVH) will have the most. Other good places to scout are William Hill sports books and any of the Station Casinos.
