In her first match at No. 1 singles, Viktoria Malova helped the Rainbow Wahine tennis team sweep past UC Riverside 7-0 in its Big West opener last Saturday.
Malova had played No. 2 singles in UH’s first three matches of the spring and moved up a spot for the UC Riverside match. Malova partnered with freshman Klara Pribylova for a win at No. 3 doubles and rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win in her Big West singles debut.
Malova, one of three players from Slovakia on the UH roster, joined the program following a decorated junior tennis career and posted her first singles win of the season in UH’s upset of No. 21 Kentucky on Jan. 13.
"She’s very professional as far as how she approaches matches," UH coach Jun Hernandez said.
No. 54 UH (2-3, 1-0 BWC) plays at San Diego (1-0) on Thursday then travels to No. 41 Long Beach State (3-0, 1-0) for a Big West match on Saturday.
