UH basketball teams giving us their all
Give it up for the University of Hawaii hoopsters. Both the women and men’s squads have been doing their fans proud, especially given the tumult that has largely engulfed UH athletics lately.
For Coach Laura Beeman’s Rainbow Wahine, Thursday’s win over UC Riverside kept them at No. 1 in the Big West standings; it is Hawaii’s longest winning streak since the 2007-08 team also won eight in a row.
For men’s hoops acting Coach Benjy Taylor, his team continues to do well against the odds, solidifying a winning season Thursday with games still remaining.
"We still got a lot a basketball left," Taylor said. "Three months ago, this was bleak."
Become governor and sign lots of things
One of the most refreshing things that came out of Gov. David Ige’s first formal news conference on Thursday was his commitment to figure out why he has to sign so many papers as part of his job.
He said he was surprised by the volume of signatures required of him, and now, he added, "We definitely are working to understand why so much of that comes through the governor’s desk."
We’d like to know, too. Why does the governor have to sign so many documents? Is it too many laws, regulatory documents, resolutions, birthday greetings? When the research is completed, please let us know.
