Hawaii Electric Light Co. crews restored power Wednesday to the last 40 Puna customers, who had been without electricity since Friday’s stormy weather.

“We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding as we worked to safely restore electric service as quickly as possible,” Kristen Okinaka, Hawaii Electric Light Co. spokeswoman, said in a news release.

On Tuesday, crews restored electrical service to 260 customers in Nanawale, Leilani Estates, and a few pocket outages in the Puna area.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph buffeted the Big Island beginning Friday, causing outages and disrupting power for 17,000 customers around the island.

The winds toppled trees, blocked roadways, and damaged utility poles and wires. Crews from Hilo, Kona and Waimea have been working to restore power since Friday evening.
