A 21-year-old Wahiawa man is scheduled to be tried in April for allegedly attacking another man with a machete after challenging him to fight at Wahiawa public housing last month.
Onos Baelo on Tuesday entered a plea of not guilty to a first-degree terroristic threatening charge. Circuit Judge Richard Perkins confirmed Baelo’s bail at $15,000.
Baelo’s trial is scheduled for the week of April 20 before Circuit Judge Dean Ochiai.
Baelo was initially arrested Jan. 30 on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder for allegedly attacking Keoholani Nihoa at the 50-unit Kauhale Nani apartment complex, about a mile from the Wahiawa Police Station.
The case was later reduced to first-degree terroristic threatening when he was charged Feb. 2.
Nihoa told police that Baelo approached him near North Cane Street on Jan. 30, pulled a machete from the right side of his shorts and swung, prompting Nihoa to jump backward to avoid being struck. Nihoa said the machete’s blade clipped his shirt.
