Obamacare clients here avoided IRS bullet
It’s the rare occasion when the advantage of Hawaii having its own health-insurance exchange is on display. Here’s one: People who got a subsidized plan from the Hawaii Health Connector were unaffected by the glitch that assailed some 800,000 customers of the federal online exchange, Healthcare.gov.
The website delivered these people the wrong data for the new tax subsidy form 1095-A. They’re all being advised to hold off on filing their taxes until they get the corrected information. And if they’re expecting a refund, that will come late this year, too.
Officials here say they’ve caught a handful of mistakes on the 1095-A, but they were unrelated to the subsidy issue and were corrected. So, Hawaii shoppers, no need to hold off on that delightful tax chore we all love so much.
