There’s no place like home, wherever it is
Did anyone really expect a different outcome?
A special state House committee on Friday found that one of its most senior House colleagues, Speaker Emeritus Calvin Say, meets the residency requirements to continue representing his District 20.
A challenge had been brought by six residents claiming that Say lives in Pauoa Valley, not the Palolo Valley home he owns in the district that he represents. Say has said that he spends time at both places, but that his residence is in Palolo.
"For me, I hope we can finally put this behind us and get on with the people’s business," Say said. "Throughout the nine years of these challenges, I have seen these matters put squarely in the hands of my constituents and they have seen fit to return me to office each time."
He makes a valid point — the guy keeps getting re-elected by District 20 voters, so clearly, this issue isn’t a deal-breaker for them.
