Lowered flags honor state Rep. Mele Carroll
The governor is ordering that flags in Hawaii be flown at half-staff to honor the late state Rep. Diana "Mele" Carroll.
U.S. and Hawaii flags flew at half-staff Friday, the day of her Oahu funeral service. The flags will fly again at half-staff on March 15, which is when her Maui service will be held.
Carroll died of cancer Feb. 18. She was 50.
She served in the state House of Representatives since 2005, representing Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai and part of Maui. She resigned Feb. 1 due to complications from medical treatment for cancer.
Gov. David Ige called her a pillar in Maui County who will be missed.
